Warts are small, rough, usually painless growths on the skin caused by human papillomavirus. There are many varieties of warts on different parts of the body, and since they are contagious, it is advisable not to pick at them as you may spread these lesions to other parts of your body or to others.
Warts can be treated with an antiviral medication, as well as with electrodesiccation and curettage depending on the size and location.
Curettage and electrodessication is an effective wart removal technique of curettage using a sharp curette followed by electrodessication. This technique is often performed by specialist dermatologists.
This procedure is conducted at your dermatologist's office and is considered to be one of the best ways to get rid of a wart permanently.
The dermatologist will apply a topical anaesthetic or administer local anaesthetic to the area to be treated. The dermatologist will then use a probe that will send electrical currents into the wart to cause the blood vessels feeding the core of the wart to die. The wart treatment process is short and done on an outpatient basis.

In addition to her aesthetic skin practice, Dr Yuen is experienced in both adult and paediatric general dermatology. Her patient demographics reflect her expertise in treating both Asian and Caucasian skin types, and international patients make up a substantial part of her practice.
As one of Singapore’s top dermatologists, Dr Yuen is dedicated to helping you achieve the skin you have always wanted, in a holistic and scientific manner.
Unfortunately, warts can grow back once they’ve been removed since there is no cure for the virus. The only thing you can do is manage your warts by visiting your dermatologist on a frequent basis to have it checked.
The evidence-based treatments that I use in my office have made me aware of the stark contrast between what people are being sold, and what actually works to alleviate certain skin problems. My goal is to provide safe and effective treatments, and I have been greatly encouraged by my patients’ clinical outcomes.
